Lorien Mattiacci

Whether she’s building a large student organization to help 70+ college students to master in-demand professional skills and follow their dreams or organizing a festival to help a dozen elementary school students to better tell stories, Lorien is always passionately dedicated to helping others. She has built a wealth of skills and experience (and credentials) in the areas of Project Management, Education and the Communications. She’s happiest when using all three to serve others.

I believe that if we can create a world with equity in education, it will solve most of our largest social problems. I have dedicated my life to gaining the skills and experiences to be a leader in the solution.

“I had the pleasure of working under Lorien both leading up to and during the ACES (The Society for Editing) 2021 Online annual conference. I expectantly await the opportunity to serve under her as co-editor at next year’s conference.

I was—and still am—most impressed by Lorien’s heart for people. She freely imparts editorial knowledge and judgement upon student journalists. She brings a nuanced management approach the newsroom. She motivates mentees to both meet and exceed her expectations (which are quite high). She prioritizes each person’s professional aspirations, often sharing targeted opportunities and tips for networking/interviewing. She creates space for connection and open, transparent communication. She champions self-care and work-life balance, refusing to place performance over personhood.

In short, Lorien Mattiacci is an emotionally intelligent educator and editor. Her conscience matches her competence. She is the loveliest (and, I believe, the rarest) type of leader.”
